The Board Investigator works with a high degree of independence to investigate consumer complaints of unprofessional or incompetent conduct, analyze information, and apply laws and regulations in real-world situations. You will uphold the integrity and professional standards for multiple licensing boards and programs, including the Board of Social Worker Licensure, Board of Counseling Professionals, Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors, Board of Examiners of Psychology, and others.

What You’ll Do

  • Conduct investigations of complaints and allegations of unprofessional conduct or incompetence.
  • Interview complainants, respondents, and witnesses.
  • Gather and analyze facts to determine case validity and recommend outcomes.
  • Manage and track complaints, compliance matters, and hearings in the case management system.
  • Prepare case summaries, reports, and draft documents
  • Coordinate complaint committee meetings and prepare Board materials.
  • Present complaint cases at Board meetings and document decisions and required follow-up actions.
  • Collaborate with staff and Assistant Attorneys General to support timely case resolution. Interpret and explain applicable laws, rules, and policies to staff, licensees, and the public.

What You Bring

To be successful in this role, you should have demonstrated experience and working knowledge of:

  • Interpreting and applying state and federal laws, rules, and policies related to professional licensure and regulatory programs.
  • Conducting investigations, fact-finding, and analyzing complex information to reach well-supported conclusions.
  • Preparing clear, concise written reports, case summaries, and regulatory documents
  • Communicating effectively and professionally with staff, attorneys, licensees, and members of the public
  • Managing multiple cases and deadlines with strong attention to detail Presenting findings in regulatory decision-making in meetings or hearings

Minimum Qualifications

A six (6) year combination of education and/or experience in consumer complaint investigations, determining facts, and resolving/recommending resolution to complaints.



Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
